SAN DIEGO COUNTY – Fiber optic upstart Wyyerd Fiber is spreading across San Diego County.
Wyyerd Fiber, headquartered in Colorado with another home in Arizona, launched in California in 2022 in National City, where its local offices are located.
Over the past two years, Wyyerd expanded to Chula Vista and Imperial Beach, and earlier this month the ISP moved east to El Cajon.
“Our expansion into El Cajon marks an important milestone for Wyyerd Fiber and the residents of this city,” said Travis Nance, COO of Wyyerd Fiber. “Our state-of-the-art, 100% fiber internet services ensure that El Cajon residents and businesses alike can enjoy the benefits of reliable connectivity with multi-GIG symmetric speeds, flat pricing, unlimited data and no contracts or installation fees.”
Wyyerd has 105 employees in the county, including call center workers, field technicians, technical professionals and construction crews.
Founded in 2017, the company offers fiber-to-the-home services, with symmetrical download and upload speeds, and launched a 5 gigabit per second symmetrical fiber service in January.
Fiber optic internet providers like Wyyerd provide high-speed internet access via fiber optic cables, which use light over glass to transmit data at super-fast speeds compared to copper wire used in traditional cable and telephone systems.
The upgrade to 5 Gbps means the company aims to compete in multi-gigabit broadband with bigger brands like AT&T and Google Fiber, as well as some of the smaller, regional ISP players like Ziply Fiber and Shentel, which all growing quickly. to offer fiber optic internet in areas with little coverage.
Wyyerd’s business model
According to Justin Freesmeier, CEO of Wyyerd, the company’s purpose-built 100% fiber network and fiber network technology is the most efficient, reliable and future-proof technology to deliver internet services.
“We have consistent, reliable services you can count on, capable of supporting the ever-increasing bandwidth needs and symmetric speeds required by upstream-intensive applications,” said Freesmeier. “We have world-class local customer service. Our teams are local, right down to the customer service representatives. When you call or communicate with Wyyerd, you are interacting with your own neighbors and members of your community.
Freesmeier said being local and fully involved in the community is part of Wyyerd’s DNA, partnering with local charities and working with local municipalities.
“We hire local technicians, local call center agents and local construction crews,” he said.
The company says its transparency also sets it apart from the competition.
Freesmeier said Wyyerd offers simple, fixed pricing with no fine print, no hidden fees, no activation fees and no surprises.
“What you see is what you get; it’s that simple,” he said.
Nance said the company prides itself on providing exceptional customer service “with local employees who live right here in San Diego.”
“We offer reliable internet service with symmetrical speeds, no data caps and competitive pricing without temporary promotional gimmicks,” said Nance. “We schedule appointment times, not appointment windows. We don’t put our customers through extensive and frustrating Interactive Voice Response call trees just to talk to our local team.”
Commitment to customers, community
Wyyerd emphasizes local management, with a strong commitment to customer service and community involvement, said Cindy Skach, director of marketing and customer acquisition at Wyyerd.
The company operates under a community-centric model, with a vision to support sustainable growth and innovation by delivering high-quality internet infrastructure.
In addition to organic growth, Wyyerd has also expanded through acquisitions, such as the 2019 purchase of Zona Communications in Arizona.
Rick Wilson, president of the San Diego Regional East County Chamber of Commerce, said Wyyerd Fiber’s presence in East County will be a boon to local businesses.
“The chamber is so pleased that Wyyerd Fiber has joined as industry members to provide much-needed fiber to East County and San Diego County,” said Wilson. “Together we will continue to serve the community.”
