Crucial has unveiled its next-gen DDR5 CUDIMM memory, which offers a clock driver on 16 GB DRAM modules at speeds of up to 6400 MT/s.
Crucial Introduces World’s First DDR5 CUDIMM Memory: 32 GB Kit Starting at $169 for Speeds of 6400 MT/s
With the launch of the Intel Core Ultra 200S CPUs and respective Z890 motherboard platforms, Crucial is releasing its next-generation DDR5 CUDIMM memory portfolio, delivering faster speeds and performance for the latest PCs. Some features of DDR5 CUDIMM memory include:
- Speed: up to 6,400 MT/s
- Density: 16 GB
- Compatibility: Intel Core Ultra processors (Series 2)
- Form Factor: Clock Driver Memory (CUDIMM and CSODIMM)
- 2x faster than DDR4 data speeds and bandwidth
- Installations in 14th generation or lower reach speeds of 5,600 MT/s or lower
- Integrated circuit for energy management on the module (PMIC)
- Two independent 32-bit channels per module (64 bits total)
- Improved refresh schedules
- On-die ECC (ODECC) for long-term stability
Starting today, Crucial is introducing its first iteration of DDR5 CUDIMM memory, based on the 16 GB modules. These modules can be purchased individually or in a 32 GB kit. The modules come with a clock driver tuned to deliver 15% faster speeds than non-clock driver based DRAM modules, with speeds up to 6400 MT/s out of the box. The memory will be available in both CUDIMM and CSODIMM variants for desktop and laptop PCs.
Micron Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: MU) today announced the availability of a brand new category of clock driver memory with the launch of its Crucial® DDR5 Clocked Unbuffered Dual Inline Memory Modules (CUDIMM) and Clocked Small Dual Memory Modules (CSODIMM), now shipping in volume. The JEDEC standard solutions operate at speeds of up to 6,400 MT/s (mega transfers per second), more than twice as fast as DDR41 and 15% faster than traditional non-clock driver-based DDR5.
Designed to deliver greater speed stability, faster downloads, and better refresh rates, these solutions represent a completely new frontier in memory form factors for next-generation PCs. Micron’s CUDIMM and CSODIMM solutions are the first commercially available JEDEC standard DDR5 CUDIMM and CSODIMM solutions to hit the market since JEDEC standardized the specification earlier this year.

Crucial also confirmed today that it has validated higher capacity DDR5 CUDIMM memory with capacities up to 64 GB using the 32 Gb DRAM ICs that can scale up to 256 GB of memory for next-generation platforms such as the aforementioned Core Ultra 200S series. These high-end, high-capacity kits will boost the capabilities of the latest PC builds and we can also expect faster memory speeds in the future.
Intel’s validation of these new client memory modules will enable top PC manufacturers and integrators to adopt Micron’s innovative clock driver-based memory in future PC platforms. Notably, Micron is the first memory vendor to validate 32 gigabit die-based 64GB CUDIMM and CSODIMM solutions for Intel Core Ultra desktop processors. This enables system capacities up to 256 GB for AI PCs and advanced workstations that require high memory density and performance.

Crucial does expect that there will be thermal differences between CKD and non-CKD memory modules, but since these are JEDEC modules running at 1.1 V, they won’t be that large and the modules will work fine without a heat spreader.

Right now, the Crucial 16GB DDR5 CUDIMM memory costs $84.99, while the 32GB kit costs $169.99. These memory modules come with a limited lifetime warranty, and the company expects 64GB capacity to become available in the first half of 2025. We can also expect 24 GB and 48 GB modules in the future.
