To achieve this mission, Samsung Health now offers comprehensive health management capabilities,1 allowing users to easily access their medical data, manage medications effectively and track their daily food intake with ease – all via the latest update to the Samsung Health app available starting today. To bring these developments to life, Samsung is working with leading companies specializing in health data integration, medication tracking and food barcode scanning, optimizing the experience in select markets.
Manage your health record from a single, secure place
With a new health records feature,2 users can easily access medical records from clinics, hospitals and major health networks – all in the Samsung Health app. Samsung has partnered with b.well Connected Health, a platform that consolidates the largest electronic health record (EMR) systems in the United States. including athenahealth, Cerner Health, Epic Systems and Veradigm®. The Health Records feature guides users to preventative care by providing meaningful insights and alerts that suggest next steps, such as recommending medical tests or actions. By providing a holistic view of their health history – including vaccination and prescription records, previous hospital visits and even specific test results – users can communicate more effectively with their healthcare providers by putting their important medical data at their fingertips.
Advanced medication tracking is being expanded to more users
Launched last year in the US, the Medication Tracking feature3 has allowed users to easily keep track of medications and access relevant tips and information, including general descriptions, possible side effects, and warnings about drug interactions or food-related reactions. The feature is one of the most used among Samsung Health app users in the US, with about two-thirds returning to manage their medications at least three times a week. With the latest update, the drug tracking feature allows more users to easily manage their medications with expanded functionalities and availability. The visual search feature allows users to easily add medications to their personal medication list by simply scanning the pill bottle with their phone’s camera. Through an intuitive dashboard, they can also monitor medication adherence and easily track medication progress, including details on dosing schedules or a missed dose.
The drug tracking feature is also expanding to South Korea and India, forging strategic initiatives with leading regional partners to bring insightful information to even more users. In the US, through its partnership with Elsevier, a globally recognized healthcare data center, the Samsung Health app also provides alerts for more than 960 types of allergies and possible reactions to medications. In Korea, users can receive warnings about medications to avoid during pregnancy at the Korea Pharmaceutical Information Center (KPIC), an authoritative institute under the Korean Pharmaceutical Association. Furthermore, through a partnership with Tata 1mg, India’s leading consumer digital healthcare platform, users in India can not only receive reminders to refill medications but can also do so conveniently online whenever necessary.
Effortlessly monitor food intake with barcode scanning
It is essential to monitor daily dietary intake and adopt healthy eating habits. Barcode scanning has now been added to the Food tracker in Samsung Health, making it even easier to capture food data such as names, calories and nutrition facts. In partnership with fatsecret, one of the largest global providers of verified food and nutrition data, users can easily scan food barcodes to automatically receive the nutrition information they need in the app. The feature will first be available in the US and select European countries including France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Poland, and will be expanded to other markets in the future.
