Internet and Wi-Fi connectivity updates around Augusta after Hurricane Helene

Many services such as water and electricity have been restored to most Augusta residents, but obtaining Wi-Fi and other forms of internet access has been a problem since Hurricane Helene.

What do internet providers do in the Augusta area?

WOW! said Sunday that service has been restored to about 60% of customers in the area. The company will adjust Augusta customers’ bills for the time without service back to the time of the outage. Those who wish to pause their service and billing for an extended period due to significant damage to their home can contact the company to activate the pause through the end of the year. There will be no late fees charged and damaged equipment can be replaced at no additional charge.

Comcast (which runs Xfinity) said Monday that 77% of Comcast Business and Xfinity customers have had their services restored across the area. Full restoration is expected on October 24, if not sooner. About 300 crew members are working all week to make full restoration possible, including crews from other states. Customers can request a “natural disaster pause” on their account to avoid billing for up to six months

AT&T said Monday that crews are still working across the state and 97% of regular customer services have been restored. Some of the remaining problems in Augusta are due to debris, lack of power or damaged critical infrastructure.

Verizon said 100% of cell sites in Georgia have returned to service. System performance engineers are now focused on optimizing and returning the network to pre-storm performance levels.

T-Mobile said Thursday that all but two locations (not in Georgia) have been restored. As of last week, the network has almost fully recovered in the affected regions, with less than 1% of network locations located in specific areas where conditions have been particularly challenging.
