Home internet in Augusta, Wi-Fi problems persist after Hurricane Helene

The Augusta area is moving closer to normal after the devastation of Hurricane Helene. However, it has been about a month and there are still several households that are still not connected to the internet. Here are the latest updates on where restoration efforts stand and where Wi-Fi is available:

What do internet providers do in the Augusta area?

WOW! said Wednesday that about 70% of its customers in Augusta are back online. Dozens of WOW! crew members continue to work around the clock to restore service to all customers as quickly as possible.

As restoration crews work in more neighborhoods, WOW! customers in those neighborhoods will be notified via email and text messages and will receive estimated restoration dates as they become available. Those affected have had their bills proactively adjusted for the time there was no service, up until the time of the outage.

Customers who have experienced significant damage to their homes can also request to have their service and billing paused for an extended period of time. There will be no late fees charged and damaged equipment can be replaced at no additional charge.

Comcast (which runs Xfinity) On Friday, they said they estimate full network restoration for much of the Augusta area by Thursday, October 24. Approximately 300 crew members have been working on the full recovery in recent weeks and they continue to work around the clock.

AT&T said last week that crews across the state are still working and 97% of regular customer services have been restored. Some of the remaining problems in Augusta are due to debris, lack of power or damaged critical infrastructure. The Augusta Chronicle has not received a local update as of Wednesday.

Verizon said 100% of cell sites in Georgia have returned to service. Since last week, system performance engineers have been focused on optimizing and returning the network to pre-storm performance levels.
