Most people are ready and willing to do their job without any problems. However, if you are constantly confronted with specific and specialized requests to do certain things, it can become overwhelming and frustrating.
In the restaurant industry, where the taste of food is as varied and sometimes complicated as a menu, the barrage of “Can I?” and “Could you do that?” can drive even the most level-headed server up the wall.
One Chili’s server advises customers not to make certain requests as they may be a bit much for the fast-casual restaurant.
In a video that has already been viewed more than 27,000 times, user @kat.maitre jokes that asking for lemon, or having a steak cooked a certain way, might not be the best decision at Chili’s.
A Chili’s PSA
“I don’t care if I get fired for this, I would never do that, but if any of my managers are watching this, keep scrolling,” they say in the video. “There’s a few things that different people, different customers, have said to me that make me think, ‘Girl, you’re at a Chili’s.'”
They say the first calls for lemon in your water. “This is a Chili’s,” says the TikToker. “It doesn’t make the water any better, and it doesn’t make the cup clean.
The second calls for a butterflies of your steak. “Am I saying it right? I don’t know what that is,” says Kat. “You’re at a Chili’s. I’m going to tell them what to do, but they’re not going to do it.”

When it comes to steak at Chili’s, TikToker advises that special requests can be ignored altogether.
“While we’re at it, three: I’m asking you how you like your steak cooked,” they say. “It doesn’t matter. It’s a nice thing. This is me being polite. You get what you get. It will bleed or be exaggerated. Just…why are you getting a steak here?’
Last but not least: when a customer informs him that the bathroom is dirty. ‘Are you telling me the bathroom is dirty? What not? This is a Chili’s,” they repeat. “So many times a day I just want to say, hey, you’re at Chili’s. Guess where you are, you’re at Chili’s.

Server PSAs
This isn’t the first time a server has advised customers not to order lemons for their water, albeit for very different reasons. Previously, another poster suggested that viewers should not ask for lemons with the water because the lemons are likely to be touched in a hurry by ungloved and unwashed hands, no matter how many times someone washes their hands.
Another consideration the poster mentions is that lemons are rarely washed (at least in their experience) before being cut into wedges and served to customers.
Viewers weigh in
Some viewers shared their own experiences with customers who expected a little too much from a casual dinner.
“When I worked at Olive Garden, people would ask me if the salmon was free-range,” one user wrote. “Ma’am, it’s frozen in the back, idfk.”
“I worked at Applebees for three years,” said another. “People were asking for things and I was like… you know where you are.”
“I work at a pizzeria in a tourist area… and people act like we have good food… ‘what do you recommend’, but it’s pizza, what do you want there,” said another.
Others were quick to point out that they don’t ask for lemon because they think it will have a major effect on their experience or will purify something; they just love lemon in their water.
“Lmao lemon is not fancy,” one commenter wrote. “It adds flavor. I hate restaurant water and it masks the water. If it’s really bad, all you need to do is add more lemon. Not fun to be judgmental.’
“Lemon in my water does make it better, thoooo,” echoed another.
“If I ask for lemon in my water it’s because I want lemon in my water lol,” one person agreed.
