Astropad, known for the Luna Display, Rock Paper Pencil and Astropad Studio app, today launched a new accessory: Bookcase. Bookcase adds handles to the iPhone or other smartphone, making the device more comfortable to hold while reading.
With Bookcase, Astropad wants to turn the iPhone into an e-reader. The accessory offers a more ergonomic grip for long reading sessions, and holding the iPhone doesn’t block part of the screen.
The Bookcase is adjustable so it can work with almost all modern iPhone and Android smartphones, and comes with a companion app that lets you create shortcuts to automatically launch reading apps. The Shortcut allows you to set up a reading app that opens when the iPhone is placed in the Bookcase, thanks to an included NFC tag.
With the iPhone 12 and higher, the iPhone is attached to the bookcase with MagSafe. For older iPhones, there is an included MagSafe conversion kit. The bookcase can be used with MagSafe compatible iPhone cases.
According to Astropad, Bookcase is ideal for commuting, lunch breaks, bedtime and more, replacing the need to purchase an e-reader while the iPhone already offers the same general functionality.
Bookcase can be purchased through the Astropad website for $40.
